Understanding printer queues
A term that may be foreign to you, but is important for all printer owners to know and understand is print queue. A print queue is involved in each and every print you send to a printer, such as a Canon FX-9 toner printer, yet many people don’t actually know what that is—a queue displays information about files that are waiting to be printed. In your queue you can view the status of your document—meaning spooling, deleting or printing—and you can see whether or not there are errors with your job. Also listed are the number of pages, sizes of jobs and the owner’s name. Here you can even cancel print jobs.
So how do you get to your printer’s queue? First, click the “Start” button at the bottom of your screen and then click the “Control Panel” option. After that click “Hardware and Sound,” followed by “Printers”. Here you will open the print queue by choosing the printer you are using, and you can also see your printer’s status here. If your Brother TN360 toner printer, for instance, is already printing the document you will find a “currently printing” message at the top of the list. It will say “pending” if print jobs have not began.
You can also check the Dell 330-1436 toner level and status online because most new printers actually serve their own web pages. To check this way, find your printer’s IP address and enter that into the address field of your web browser. When the screen appears that asks you if you want to install your printer’s utility program click “Yes”. A screen will then appear with your status information.
If you choose to cancel a print job already in the queue, try simply clicking on the “Cancel” command; however if you wish to print multiple jobs, click on the “Purge” command. You can also pause jobs midway through by clicking the “Pause Printing” option in your printer menu.
Beeping HP LaserJet
If you have an HP LaserJet printer, such as a model with HP Q5951A toner, you probably find it to be both reliable and durable. These machines are high-quality—there’s no question about that, but sometimes just like any other printer, your HP LaserJet is going to act up and possibly have a problem. Sometimes this problem is miniscule but annoying—like the beeping that sounds when your printer is connected to a power strip, surge protector or uninterruptible power supply (or UPS).
What is causing this annoying beep to keep going? This has something to do with the power supply you are using. When your printer is processing the job, it sends a current to your UPS, surge protector or power strip, which will then fluctuate slightly. This fluctuation can actually cause an inadequate supply of power to pass through. Basically, your UPS or surge protector is not allowing the printer to receive sufficient voltage. Your printer doesn’t have speakers built-in, so these noises are coming directly from your external power strip or UPS power source, not the printer itself.
The beeping is not the only problem that will occur because of a current problem—actually there are quite a few things that can go wrong. If you are receiving false errors or not waking up from sleep mode, there could be an issue with your power supply. Incorrect printouts, slower than normal printing and jobs only printing halfway with HP C9733A toner are also common signs, as well as your monitor losing power and shutting off. If your computer reboots itself while jobs are printing, the problem could be with the power supply too.
To find out if your connection is the issue, simply plug your HP CB436A toner printer directly into the wall. If the noises stop, then you have found your problem. If possible, printing directly from the wall daily might be your best bet. However, if a surge protector, power strip or UPS is needed, this product most likely just needs to be replaced.
Printing to wrong printer
There are many frustrating tendencies your printer can at times experience. Though some are easily fixable with a little common sense, there are some that boggle the mind. For many Windows users, the biggest issue is the fact that when they select a print job, Windows sends it to the Lexmark E250A21A toner printer rather than the HP. No one knows why this happens exactly, but there are simple ways to fix this annoying habit your server has taken on.
So what’s going on inside your Windows operating system that’s making it continue to print from the wrong printer and how much Samsung CLP-510D5C toner must be wasted? Is Windows simply ignoring your request or do you need to install something new? The answers to all these questions are actually pretty simple—Windows is selecting a new default printer for you automatically. A default printer is the machine that all print jobs are automatically sent to. Usually this is something the user selects; however, if you have updated your server or upgraded to a different printer, this commonly occurs. Usually it occurs when someone has upgraded from Vista to Windows 7. Also at times there is a simple glitch somewhere between your machine and the printer causing documents to print from the wrong station.
Don’t worry though—this is easy enough to fix. If you are a Windows 7 user, click the “Start” icon, and click “Devices and Printers”. Next right click on the printer you wish to be your default printer and choose “Set as Default Printer”.
If you are a Vista user, click the “Start” button and then “Control Panel”. After clicking “Hardware and Sound” click “Printers”. From here you can chose your favorite printer as the default. Now even though it may be a little outdated, there are still a lot of users who use XP. If that is your operating system, try these same steps.
If these things do not work, updating your driver might be the best solution. Using these simple steps you should have your office up and printing in no time—from the right Xerox 113R00719 toner printer too!
Slow wireless printing
Recently there has been an increase in the number of wireless printers hitting the market. Due to a wireless printer’s convenience, many businesses are adding them to their offices and seeking wireless printing as a must-have feature. However, once their new printer is unwrapped, placed on the desk with the Konica-Minolta 1710580-001 toner installed and set up to the network, some buyers are wishing they would have stuck to good old wired printing. The problem people are finding has to do with speed—far too many are finding their wireless printer is just too slow.
Why does this happen? Well, instead of your printer getting a signal directly from the cord connected to the printer, your printer has to get signal sometimes from across the room or a different room entirely, which is a much farther distance. This is one of the ways speed can suffer. For printers on a network, there really is no better option than using an ethernet cable, due to the fact they connect directly. There is literally no distance between your computer and the printer because of this cord.
It’s not always the case that distance or amount of people using the HP Q6002A toner printer are the issue. It could be your wireless router. One set up with 802.11n specifications will not only match the speeds of an ethernet-hooked computer, but it will easily surpass those speeds.
Sometimes this issue can occur because your printer driver is out of date. By going to your printer manufacturer’s website, you can download the latest drivers, which could fix your problem very easily.
The easiest way to fix this problem would be to change the setting. If you are printing simple text documents at a high resolution, and you are doing so in the “Normal” setting, you should switch your setting to “Fast Draft”, which will cause the printer to work much faster. However, in this setting quality can be lost. A few other suggestions to speed it up, are to add RAM to your printer, print all website pages without graphics or get faster generating Okidata 42127401 toner.
HP LaserJet M1522nf false error
Sometimes printers can get all out of whack, giving their users false positive error messages. In these cases, your printer could be saying one thing but meaning another. It’s hard to know what to do or how to fix the problem when you aren’t really sure what the real problem even is. When you pick up your user manual, and flip through the pages, you probably aren’t going to find the answer to your printer’s problem finely laid out in front of you. However, if you find yourself scratching your head, baffled by your HP LaserJet M1522nf multifunction printer’s false positive message, then here are a few solutions for you.
If you own a LaserJet M1522nf and are seeing an error message telling you that you need to “Install black cartridges” when that is not the case, you are experiencing this issue. You may not find this error as often with color printers using Konica-Minota 1710587-004 toner. There could be a couple of different issues causing this error, but all of these issues usually occur because you have some sort of paper jam issue.
Sometimes this paper issue is as simple as the fact that the paper tray has just been overfilled and has lifted the printer toner up from its normal position. This would push the cartridge up, causing it not to be recognized by the M1522nf. All you have to do in order to fix this, is to take out some of the paper and place the toner cartridge in its rightful spot. Other monochrome units do not tend to have this issue, such as the HP 1000 printer which features HP C7115X toner.
If your error isn’t due to overfilled paper tray, though, it is probably because you have a paper jam that is pushing the toner cartridge up. In order to fix this, you should first take out the toner cartridge and all paper from the input tray. If you can clearly see a paper jam, clear it. If not, try turning the printer off and then on again and also reinstall the printer toner in its proper place. Lastly, reload paper into the input tray, make sure that you do not overfill your input tray. One of these two processes should fix your printer and error. If these problems continue happening, perhaps an inkjet printer would be a more simple choice, such as a unit featuring Canon BCI-15BK ink.
Upgrade printer memory
You’re standing in front of your printer and on the screen an error flashes up telling you that you are out of memory. You’ve had your printer for 3 years and replaced the HP C9720A toner multiple times, bot never the 56 MB of memory, which seemed like more than enough. You didn’t exactly know what that meant, but you knew the printer in front of you had every other specification you needed, and it was at an affordable price. You have cleared your printer’s memory multiple times and gotten rid of all the unimportant data that was taking up space in order to fix your current issue. But now, your printer is slow and large files won’t even process. You don’t want to part with your reliable little unit, but you feel you have no options whatsoever. Your current memory is not sufficient.
You may not know, though, that there is indeed a way to keep your printer and fix all of your issues—adding memory to your printer. This should help recognize new Okidata 42127403 toner, for instance. Laser printers are much like computers because they typically come with their own processor memory and network connections. Many these days even have their own hard drives! Though it is a little costly, adding memory to your printer can be the easy fix your looking for.
Adding memory can actually upgrade your printer in a few ways. It can increase the complexity of files that can be stored in your Canon FX-8 toner printer, increase the size of documents that you can store in your printer and depending on the printer, you may actually even be able to print at higher resolutions. The best part about it though, is that you are speeding up your printing process entirely—the more memory you have, the faster your printer will work.
Though some machines don’t offer expansion options, many laser printers do. All you need to do, is check with your manufacturer, and explore your expansion options from there. You may not have to part with your machine at all, and with expansion you may be printing faster and with higher quality than ever before.
Configure spool settings
There are situations in life where you need your prints to come out immediately, but at times, you don’t need your prints for awhile and having them will just be a distraction. Most people don’t know that it’s actually possible to make your printer print documents based on your needs. The “Spool Settings” option on your machine can actually force your printer to work how you want it to when you want it too.
What exactly is a spool? A spool is kind of a “buffer” between your print job and the distribution of toner, such as HP Q5950A toner. A print spool is a software program that manages all print jobs being sent to the printer or server. It processes your prints and manages your print jobs that are waiting to be printed. For instance, if you or someone at your office is printing another document, your document is just sitting in the spooler, waiting for its chance. When a document is still spooling, you have the ability to cancel it.
If you set your spool to start printing as soon as it receives a command, your printer will begin as soon as any of the data has been transferred. However, if you wait a few seconds, you can set it to print only when the entire document has been sent. That way if you have a 30 page document and for some reason the entire document doesn’t get sent, you don’t realize halfway through, have to start from square one and find yourself printing 45 pages instead of the 30 that you need and ultimately wasting ink or toner, like Samsung CLP-K660B toner.
In order to configure the spool settings, click on “Start”, “Settings” and then “Printers”. When you get to the “Printers” window, click on the icon for the printer you are working with and select the “Properties” setting. From here, click on “Details” and then the “Spool Settings” button. Now click “Print Directly to a Printer”.
Here you can pause printing, set it to print at a certain time everyday by using the “Schedule” button. You can even install a copy of your printer onto your drive so you can schedule a networked printer to your settings without affecting anyone else in the office! If you want to preserve printer toner, like Lexmark C5220CS toner, and make printing happen on your watch, not your machine’s, spool settings are the way to do this!
Windows XP troubleshooting
When using Windows XP, you can experience a lot of issues with printing. These issues, for the most part, can be cleared up quite quickly and easily, though. Windows even has a program called Printing Troubleshooter that will try to diagnose your issue and solve it on the spot!
There are a few Windows XP issues that are much more common than others. If you are having trouble installing your printer, are receiving an error message or have lost the CD with the driver that came with your printer upon purchase, you should start by simply downloading and reinstalling the latest printer driver. This can be found on your manufacturer’s website, along with toner, such as HP C9720A toner.
If you are having problems canceling a print job or deleting it from print queue, there is an easy way to do this. First, try to cancel the print job by using the Cancel button. If that doesn’t work, try turning the printer off and then back on. This may cancel your print job. Another way, is by going to your computer’s Control Panel and choosing the Printers option and then clicking Cancel All Documents. This will prevent wasting too much toner or ink, like HP 920 Black ink.
If none of these listed above are your problem, try using the Windows Support Center. Click Start and then click the option Printers and Faxes. Click Help and Support Center, and then click the option Fixing a printer problem. Next, look over the topics and see if yours is listed. Many solutions will be located here as well.
As mentioned before, the Printing Troubleshooter is included with Windows XP. The Troubleshooter has step-by-step instructions for many of the problems you could be experiencing. Some of the included troubleshoots are problems installing a local printer, printing photos with high quality, getting replacement toner, such as HP Q7582A toner, to register with the printer, using certain features of the printer, printing graphics or texts and printing at the pace listed for the printer. This can be accessed by choosing Printing Troubleshooter from the Help and Support menu.
What is a printer driver?
Printer drivers are the software that controls the printer, as well as the data that it prints. In order to print documents, you must have a driver installed, as well as your Dell 3100cn toner. When you first install your printer, you may find you already have a driver on your computer because the majority of operating systems come with drivers. However, the manufacturer often will come up with newer versions of the driver to fix issues that are typical, for example not registering the Lexmark toner cartridges, which you too might face. Compatibility, stability, functionality and security issues are all common among printer drivers, and updated versions can almost always be found on the manufacturer’s website.
If there is a repetitive issue you experience and can’t find a permanent solution for, checking the manufacturer’s website for driver updates could be a simple solution. For example, if you are having trouble connecting to a network and your printer has in the past had that capability or should have that capability, it could be possible that the manufacturer released a new drive to stabilize your environment and allow networking to all your machines. Or if your new Xerox toner cartriges are in the correct slot but for some reason the printer will not acknowledge the installation. In many cases, installing a new driver can be the easiest way to fix little problems within your unit.
It is important to know the difference between your current driver and the new driver in order to determine whether or not you need to download the updated version. If you aren’t having problems printing or the printer is working flawlessly, you might not ever need to update the driver. If that is the case, you probably shouldn’t do it just to do it. Before installing anything new to a printer, even toner cartridges, remember the old advice “if it’s not broke, don’t fix it.” This could cause more problems than solutions, in some cases. Sometimes, updating your driver can be exactly what your printer needs to restore itself and keep it up to date. When updating printer drivers, use your best discretion.
Trouble printing on envelopes?
Printing on envelopes tends to be a confusing and frustrating task over and over again. The first thing that you must make sure of is that you have the ability to print on envelopes. While most flashy, modern-day printers have this option, many don’t. An envelope is printed through a manual feed try or optional paper tray. Make sure the correct paper tray is attached before you start printing.
It is also important to have the appropriate paper weight and size envelopes for your printer. Checking the printer manual is a fast and easy way to check for the correct paper. Most printers work well with 20lb paper weights—the typical weight for a standard envelope. Remember that heavy stock paper may not be able to fit through the printer properly which could cause a paper jam or wrinkle the envelope. Also, make sure the adhesive on the envelope can withstand heat that is exerted from the unit.
The next step is to check the alignment. Many inkjet printers pull envelopes from the left or right sides of the tray, and some pull from the center of the tray. You will need to know this so you know what side to put the paper in. Many printers allow you to configure the output tray and feeder tray to attempt to keep envelope flat through the process.
Overstuffing the feeder tray can also cause a major problem. Some printers can only hold a few pages, while some can hold up to 50 envelopes. Envelopes are much thicker than regular paper so the feeder tray won’t be able to handle the same amount of paper. Overstuffing can cause paper jams. Also, make sure paper guides are tight and make sure they are flush to your envelopes. This ensures that they will stay straight through the printing process avoiding paper jams and ink toner smudging. Xerox 8550 ink is among the best for envelope printing.
In most cases, doing these steps will make printing on envelopes possible, and maybe even easy as long as you have high quality Xerox Phaser ink. However, if this doesn’t work the best option is to consult your owner’s manual from the manufacturer.
